For the city of Montpelier, ORW designed Turntable Park, a public space which celebrates the rail related heritage of the City. The park incorporates a historic railroad turntable and makes it accessible for public exploration and enjoyment. In addition to the turntable, the park also uses granite blocks salvaged from the site for seating. The overall aesthetic of the park, like the new buildings in the area, references the industrial history of the area. Turntable Park is located adjacent to the Winooski River on Stone Cutter’s Way, an area that is transitioning from industrial to commercial uses. The Turntable Park provides a strong visual reminder to the area’s past, while engaging the natural curiosity of park users about railroad turntables.
