Trestleview Park, Franklin New Hampshire

Where a water-powered mill once dominated the riverside in Franklin, New Hampshire, a new downtown park has been created to take its place. This park is powered by water as well, through the paddle strokes of countless white-water kayakers that will use the ADA accessible ramp to exit the river at the base of a locally famous Class III set of rapids. Access to the river is for everyone, however, and the park serves as a new link connecting the river to downtown. The original eighteen-foot diameter iron wheel that once drove the mill’s machinery now welcomes visitors entering downtown across the Central Street Bridge. This project was honored by the Merrimack Valley Paddlers and Friends of the Winnipesaukee River for its boat-friendly and thoughtful design (2004).
