Tilton Riverfront Park, Tilton New Hampshire

In Tilton, New Hampshire, ORW designed a park at the site of the former Pillsbury Mill on the Winnipesaukee River at the edge of Tilton’s downtown district.  The mill, built in 1868, was acquired by the town in 1994 and burned in 1999.  The intention of the Town was to develop a park on the site to serve as a gateway and complement to the historic downtown district.

The park design includes river access for canoes, kayaks and fishing; green space for community events, picnicking and passive enjoyment of the river; a small playground, and walking connections to the downtown, adjacent commercial uses and regional trail systems.  A central pavillion that references the architecture of the Pillsbury Mill serves as the centerpiece of the park.  Tilton Riverfront Park won a merit award from Plan New Hampshire (2007).
