Hartford Memorial, Hartford Vermont

ORW worked with Hartford sculptor Jeffrey Sass to develop a veterans memorial for the Town of Hartford.  The sculpture is sited in White River Junction’s Gateway Park, in the newly renovated Railroad Row area of the downtown alongside the Connecticut River.  Rather than a more traditional style memorial, the sculpture features five geese taking flight.  The metaphor of the geese represents the idea of a remembrance of service personnel who leave and our wait for their return.   Geese fly in formation and are also known for their fierce loyalty, other characteristics in common with the military.  The five geese represent the five branches of the military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard).
