Merchants Row Master Plan, Barre Vermont

The Merchants Row Master Plan resolves a number of circulation issues associated with the Merchants Row/Enterprise Alley area of Barre.  Shop owners report that 50 to 85% of their patrons enter from Merchants Row, yet there is no accommodation for pedestrians and entrances are not ADA accessible.  The Barre Opera House has experienced chronic problems with patron drop-off at the Merchants Row entrance, and the image and appearance of the area is bleak and uninviting.  The plan provides for the transformation of this bleak area of undifferentiated asphalt to a reconfigured urban landscape that includes sidewalks, ADA accessible entrances to Merchants Row shops, public plazas at the Barre Opera House and historic train depot, an alignment for a long planned bike path, designated loading areas and landscaping.
